Finding the Right Senior Living for Mom and Dad Starts Here.

Whether you are navigating assisted living, memory care, or independent living for mom and dad, we do the research, ask the right questions,

WHAT WE DO

We help families find the right senior living for mom or dad, with free, compassionate, local guidance every step of the way.

Leslie and Brian Word, Founders of Kindred Senior Advisors

Empathy for every family. Dignity for every client. Honesty in every conversation. We believe home is more than a place. It is where you are known by name, welcomed by warmth, and surrounded by people who genuinely care. This process is hard, but it does not have to be difficult, because no one is meant to go through it alone.

What Makes Kindred Different?

Most families don’t realize there is a free local senior placement service that does all the research for them. Kindred Senior Advisors is not a directory, a call center, or a national agency. We are Leslie and Brian Word, a locally based senior living advisor team serving North Atlanta families personally, thoughtfully, and at no cost to your family.

Free for Families

Our guidance, research, and recommendations cost your family nothing. The senior living community your loved one chooses compensates us only after they move in, similar to how a real estate agent is paid. Our recommendations are never based on compensation. They are based entirely on what is right for your loved one.

Local Expertise

We know the North Atlanta senior living communities personally because we have been inside them. We walked the hallways, met the staff, ate the food, and asked the hard questions. We only recommend communities based upon what is best for your family.

We Tour With You

Our desire is that you will never walk into a senior living community alone. We know what to look for, what questions to ask, and what the answers actually mean. Having an experienced advisor by your side changes everything about how a tour feels and what you are able to see.

Personally Vetted Communities

We do not hand you a list and send you on your way. Every community we recommend has been personally evaluated by Leslie and Brian for quality of care, staff culture, safety, and overall fit for the families we serve.

Concierge-Level Service

From the first phone call to move-in day, you are working directly with Leslie and Brian, not a call center or rotating staff. We coordinate your tours, help you compare your options, and stay with you through every step of the process.

To walk alongside families with compassion, wisdom, and trusted guidance as they navigate one of life’s most meaningful transitions. We believe every family deserves a voice in the next chapter of their loved one’s life, and our role is to make sure they have one.

We Walk Alongside Families Through One of Life's Hardest Moments.

Helping a parent or loved one find the right senior living is one of the most emotionally complex decisions a family will ever make. There is often guilt, grief, urgency, and uncertainty all at once. We founded Kindred Senior Advisors because we have lived this journey ourselves, and we built this service to make sure no family has to navigate it alone.

01

Compassionate Guidance From People Who Get It

We are not a corporation or a call center. We are a husband and wife team who are currently walking alongside our own aging parents through this exact journey. We listen first, ask the right questions, and take the time to truly understand your loved one’s care needs, personality, preferences, budget, and location before making a single recommendation.

02

We Tour The Community With You

One of the things families tell us makes the biggest difference is that we are there in person for every tour. We walk through each community alongside you, help you see what you might miss, ask the right questions of the staff, and give you honest feedback afterward so you can compare your options with confidence. You are never alone in that process.

03

A Trusted Local Advisor Who Knows the Area

Unlike large national agencies who manage hundreds of markets from a call center, we live and work right here in North Atlanta. We know the communities, the neighborhoods, and the families we serve. That local knowledge and personal investment is something no national platform can replicate.

OUR TEAM

LESLIE WORD

Co-Founder and Senior Placement Advisor

Leslie brings more than a decade of experience as a research strategist and grants director to her work at Kindred Senior Advisors. Her ability to listen carefully, cut through complexity, and find exactly the right fit for the people she serves is at the heart of everything Kindred does.

Leslie has called the Atlanta area home for over 13 years and lives in East Cobb with her family. She is a mom to five incredible kids brought into their family through international adoption, guardianship, foster care, and biological birth. When she is not helping families navigate senior living, you can find her coaching her daughter’s softball team, serving on the PTA board, or holding babies in the church nursery.

She approaches every family the way she would want someone to approach her own parents: with patience, warmth, and zero pressure.

BRIAN WORD

Co-Founder and Senior Placement Advisor

Brian spent two decades as a pastor across the Southeast and Oklahoma, walking alongside families through some of life’s most difficult and meaningful moments. That calling, combined with his certification as a Life Coach in Change Management, shaped the foundation of everything he brings to Kindred Senior Advisors.

Brian was introduced to senior living early in life when his father built the first assisted living community in Cleveland, Tennessee, after struggling to find a safe and appropriate place for his own mother-in-law. That same spirit of meeting a neighbor’s need has followed Brian throughout his career and into Kindred.

Today Brian and Leslie are personally walking alongside their own aging parents through a dementia diagnosis and a transition to senior living. That firsthand experience gives them a depth of understanding that cannot be taught, and it is exactly why families trust them to walk alongside theirs.

A former collegiate football player, Brian is working his way toward visiting every NFL stadium in the country and has officially retired from coaching 6U softball after one legendary season.

INDEPENDENT LIVING

The right fit for seniors who are ready to simplify life without giving up their independence.

What It Is

Independent living communities are designed for older adults who are largely self-sufficient but want the freedom of a maintenance-free lifestyle with built-in community around them. Think no more lawn care, no more home repairs, and neighbors right down the hall.

Who It Is Best For

Your loved one is a good fit for independent living if they feel isolated at home, are overwhelmed by the upkeep of a house, or simply want to be surrounded by people their own age in a vibrant, engaging environment.

How We Help

There are dozens of independent living communities across North Atlanta and no two are alike. We help your family compare options based on lifestyle fit, social opportunities, location, and budget so your loved one lands somewhere they truly love.

ASSISTED LIVING

The right fit for loved ones who need a little extra help without losing their independence.

What It Is

Assisted living communities provide support with daily tasks like medication management, bathing, dressing, and meals while allowing residents to maintain as much independence as possible. It is not a nursing home. It is a community designed to meet your loved one where they are.

Who It Is Best For

Your loved one may be ready for assisted living if daily tasks are becoming harder to manage safely at home, if you are concerned about them living alone, or if their needs have increased beyond what family caregivers can provide.

How We Help

Finding the right assisted living community means looking beyond the brochure. We personally tour every community we recommend and evaluate the staff culture, quality of care, and overall feel of the environment so your loved one ends up somewhere they feel supported and not managed.

MEMORY CARE

Specialized, secure care for families navigating Alzheimer's or dementia.

What It Is

Memory care is a specialized type of senior living designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other memory-related conditions. These communities have specially trained staff, secure environments, and programming built around the unique needs of residents with memory loss.

Who It Is Best For

If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s and their safety, wandering, or cognitive changes have become a concern at home or in a traditional assisted living setting, memory care is likely the right next step.

How We Help

Memory care decisions carry more weight than almost any other senior living choice, and we understand that deeply. We help families evaluate staff training, safety protocols, the culture of the community, and the emotional fit so you can make this decision with confidence and without regret.

PERSONAL CARE HOMES

A smaller, more intimate alternative to traditional assisted living.

What It Is

Personal care homes are residential-style homes, often in a neighborhood setting, that provide individualized care for a small number of residents. Think of it as the feeling of home with the support of a care team. They typically serve six to ten residents and offer a quieter, more family-like environment than a larger facility.

Who It Is Best For

Personal care homes are a great fit for loved ones who feel overwhelmed in larger communities, who thrive in quieter and more intimate settings, or whose care needs fall somewhere between independent living and full assisted living. They can also be a more affordable option for families on a tighter budget.

How We Help

Personal care homes are one of the most underutilized and misunderstood senior living options, and they are often exactly what a family needs. We know the personal care homes across North Atlanta personally and can help you determine if this setting is the right fit for your loved one.

RESPITE CARE

Short-term care that gives family caregivers the break they deserve.

What It Is

Respite care is temporary, short-term placement in a senior living community designed to give family caregivers relief. Coverage can range from a week to a month or more, providing professional support for your loved one while you rest, travel, recover, or simply breathe.

Who It Is Best For

If you are the primary caregiver for an aging parent and approaching burnout, facing a medical situation of your own, or simply need a planned break, respite care is not a luxury. It is a necessary part of sustainable caregiving. It is also a great way for a loved one to try out a community before committing to a permanent move.

How We Help

Respite care can be hard to navigate because not every community offers it and availability changes quickly. We help families find short-term placement options in North Atlanta quickly and without the pressure of a long-term commitment.

Living options

Respite Care

Respite Care is a form of short-term care that nursing homes and senior living communities provide to residents who require additional help with day-to-day activities.

Memory Care

Memory care services features a safe and secure environment where residents are closely monitored and cared for by professionally trained staff.

Assisted Living

Requiring assisted living services is common for older adults. Assisted living at Onilife, however, is remarkably uncommon.

Independent Living

For many older adults, maintaining independence, dignity, and self-determination is their top priority. At Onilife, our top priority is helping each resident achieve that reality.

Frequently Asked Question

ABOUT OUR SERVICE

Yes. There is never a cost to your family for working with Kindred Senior Advisors. The senior living community your loved one chooses compensates us after they move in, similar to how a real estate agent is paid after a home closes. Our recommendations are never based on that compensation. They are based entirely on what is right for your loved one.

Senior living communities pay us a referral fee after your loved one moves in. Communities are not allowed to charge families more for using a senior advisor, so there is no catch and no hidden cost to you.

National agencies manage hundreds of markets from a call center and often prioritize volume over fit. We are locally based in North Atlanta. You work directly with us from the first call to move-in day. We know the communities personally, we tour them with you, and we are invested in finding the right fit, not just the fastest one.

Our goal is to personally accompany every family on every tour. We will always do our best to make our schedules align. We know what to look for, which questions to ask, and how to evaluate what you are seeing so you can compare your options with confidence.

ABOUT THE PROCESS

You will hear from us within 24 hours on weekdays or within 24 to 48 hours on weekends. That first call is a short 10 to 15 minute conversation to understand your situation and get the right next steps in place. No paperwork, no pressure, no commitment.

It depends entirely on your family’s timeline. Some families are planning months or even years ahead. Others need placement within days due to a hospitalization or sudden change in health. We work at your pace, whatever that looks like for your situation.

There are a few. If your family has already been working with another placement advisor or national agency, we are typically not able to step in, as that advisor would already be owed the community referral on your behalf. We also do not place individuals who need skilled nursing, nursing home, or rehab care. We come into the picture when someone is ready to transition from rehab or home into assisted living, memory care, or a personal care home.

ABOUT SENIOR LIVING OPTIONS

We help families navigate Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Personal Care Homes, and Respite Care across the North Atlanta metro area, including Marietta, East Cobb, Roswell, Kennesaw, Acworth, Canton, Woodstock, Alpharetta, Smyrna, and Sandy Springs.

Assisted living provides support with daily tasks like meals, medication, and mobility while allowing residents to maintain independence. Memory care is a more specialized, secure environment specifically designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia, with trained staff and programming built around memory loss. Some communities offer both, but not all assisted living facilities have a dedicated memory care wing.

A personal care home is a smaller, residential-style home that provides individualized care for a small number of residents, typically six to ten people. They offer a more intimate, home-like setting than a larger facility and are often a great fit for loved ones who feel overwhelmed in bigger communities. They can also be a more affordable option for some families.

FOR CAREGIVING FAMILIES

We understand that not every family has the luxury of time. If your loved one has just been discharged from a hospital or rehabilitation facility, or if their needs have changed suddenly, call us directly at 770-778-2432. We will prioritize your situation and help you find the right placement as quickly as possible.

No. We work with a wide network of communities across North Atlanta and our recommendations are based solely on fit, not on which communities have the highest referral fees. We are only compensated if your loved one moves into a community we recommended, which means our entire incentive is to find the right place for your family.
